Problems with playing music, and video

ok, i got alot of music files and videos, i double boot Vista and Ubuntu, i cannot play any of my music or videos on ubuntu, on any of the media players, and i cannot connect to the internet on ubuntu to download the correct codec, is there anything i can do?

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

iirc, that will install all the restricted codecs you will need.

oh and

sudo apt-get install vlc

for good measure ;) media player that plays just about everything ;)
