The HP 2133 Mini-Note PC (preinstalled ang Linux)

Tumitingin ako ng mga subnotebook online at swerte ako't nahanap ko ang HP 2133 (http://h40059.www4.hp.com/hp2133/).

Maganda 'to dahil halos kasing laki siya ng EEE PC 700 kaso mas matindi ang specs. May EEE PC 900 na lumabas na kaso mukhang wala pa sa Pilipinas. Mas malaki ang screen at ram nito kesa sa EEE PC 700. Ang nakakatuwa talaga sa HP 2133 ay kahit maliit siya, 92% ng size ng normal na keyboard ang laki ng keyboard niya, hindi tulad ng EEE PC. Ang RAM nito ay 1-2gb at ang memory ay 120gb. Dito talong-talo ang EEE PC. Masasabi ko rin na malayo ang itsura nito sa EEE PC. Tingnan ninyo na lang ang pictures ng aluminum machine na ito at ikumpara sa plastic na EEE.

Kung presyo ang pag-uusapan, ang mga nakita ko online ay sa bandang $650-850. May iba't-ibang specs din kaya may mas mura at mas mahal. May nakita ako sa ebay.ph na P30k. Ayos na 'yon kaso baka mas mura kung makaka-bili sa States.

Ano masabi ninyo dito? Mas attractive ba 'to kesa sa ibang mga subnotebook?

Ayos na siguro 'to kung magkaron ako ng resources para bumili ng computer soon kaso ang problema naman ay saan kaya ito mabibili? Merong isang unit sa ebay.ph kaso baka may mauna sa 'tin. Hindi ko rin alam kung madaling magpa-ship nito mula sa US. Kung bibili kayo, saan at paano kaya?

I ended up buying the Mini-Note with Vista Business pre-installed (1.6GHz processor and 2GHz of RAM for about $750) from J&R Music World at their Amazon.com store. I live in the U.S. and got the Mini-Note the day after I placed my order online.

I then installed Linux Mint 5 Elyssa Beta from a USB drive, keeping Vista because it represented part of the price I paid and because I need it to run exam software. I have since fallen in love with this machine, and you probably will too. Mabuhay.

I believe OpenSuse naka-install na linux on this machine.

Nakakita ako sa MOA and it costs P29,000. I don't know if that's practical enough. 12" Acers ang kinoconsider ko ngayon pero di ko pa alam.

If I can keep my lappy when I buy a new machine, I think, I'll choose the HP 2133. If not 12" Acer na lang siguro. Bumabagsak na rin naman presyo ng TravelMates ngayon. It depends if my resources permit.

This is nice. But lately, I'm more interested on having pen computing capabilities like that of a Tablet PC in the same form factor. Unfortunately, walang Linux distro that has good support for such. There's a lot of software out there, but there is no definitive solution.

So if I ever get one with touchscreen capabilities and perhaps an Atom processor, I will most likely stick it to Windows.

How do you find the performance of the Via CPU? I believe it runs VIA C7-M and you get more options depending on the model you get with a different SKU.

As you probably expect, the mobile VIA CPU is just fine for basic tasks: e-mail, word processing, chatting, etc. If you try to do anything complicated, then it will start to limp.

I read that HP put VIA CPUs in there to begin with because of the need to meet the purchase schedule of the education market; when they start putting in Atom CPUs, this thing will really fly.
