I'm looking at upgrading my main rig. I'm probably going with a P35 north bride and a core 2 duo e8400. The mobo and processor has a FSB of 1333MHZ. Right now DDR3 realy isnt looking much better than DDR2. I was looking at this

However since DDR3 is expensive and isn't realy that much faster, i was wondering what kinda of ram to go with. If DDR2, then what standard 800 vs 1066 ext. I can find 800 with lower CAS than 1066. Basicaly if its not going to slow down the system by a noticable amount why spend the extra $$. Oh, ya im also looking at 4g 2x2g.

you have to install whatever type of ram the mobo supports, not whatever ram you feel like.

DDR3 isn't much better bang for the buck you are right. Go with Corsair XMS2.

Unless you are planning to overclock your machine to 4GHz+ those memory sticks are huge overkill. You are probably mistaking the overall FSB with the speed of the memory you need.
The processor actually has a clock of 333MHz. It must have a default multiplier of 9x because that would make the speed 3GHz.
If you aren't going to overclock then all you need is a 667MHz. 333MHz * 2 = 666MHz NEEDED.
If you are going to overclock a little bit (or want to be safe!) then you should get 800MHz.
I would personally get some decent 800MHz sticks.

this is just my opinion, but i would get ddr3 cuz eventually, you're gonna need it any way...
