gcc libraries and conio.h

I am trying to use <conio.h> and gcc does not appear to like it. I checked usr/lib/ and there does not appear to be a libconio anywhere so, I guess the magic question is how do you install it? I even tried doing a search on synaptic but it was not there either. Any ideas?

My homework coming up in the immediate future is going to requires strings, pointers, arrays, and structures. Are there any other libraries I may need?

Conio is specific to Windows, and is not available elsewhere.
