Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
Compliz Fusion

When I have a game running on one of my screens it works fine. But when I change screens using the cube function and try to go back to the screen where my game is playing, the game disappears. I can hear the sound of it, but it does not display anything but the desktop. I tried alt tabbing into it as well, but it doesn't pop up. Anyone have a solution to this problem?

Compiz wasn't really designed for this type of functionality when it comes to gaming.

It's obvious your game and compiz don't get along, so you're best off avoiding doing what you are that causes it to crash/disappear.

Reminds me of an old bit of sarcasm:
Patient - "Doctor it hurts when I do this."
Doctor - "Well then, don't do that..."

Indeed, compiz + games = not that great

The game I play often, Urban Terror (http://www.urbanterror.net) runs very poorly, even in fullscreen, if Compiz is running. My FPS meter may say that I'm getting a solid 60fps, but it is clearly running rather clunkily.

The desktop cube is cool, the other effects are cool, but in the end they just make things not perform optimally. 3d modelling applications take a big performance hit as well. If I have compiz running while using gtkradiant (q3 map editor), after about 10 minutes the program gets so slowed down it's basically unusable. If I run Metacity, everything runs great. It's a pain in the *** to keep switching back and forth, IMO.
