I have an HP laptop with the ati igp 340M video card.

Under Gutsy, I could use xrandr to turn off the LVDS and then xorg would fill in the entire display on my external monitor. Since upgrading to Hardy, I have no external display. It will mirror command line (i.e., boot sequence, CTRL+ALT+F1, etc.) but when X loads, the display goes blank and I can not get any display whatsoever. My LVDS still works, but I really want my 19-inch.

Please help.

I also have an HP laptop (with a broken lcd), the same video card, and under Hardy I couldn't use my external monitor so I downgraded to Gutsy. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if any of the recent updates have fixed this issue. I have read that perhaps the newest kernel may have fixed the issue, but I'm unwilling to upgrade to Hardy just to find that it still hasn't been fixed.

I have all the updates for Hardy installed and I am still stuck using the vesa driver and not the ATI driver.

It is workable, but not great.
