I was wondering if MapleStory was compatible with WINE?

I read else where that it wasn't, but some people found ways around it, so any ideas?

MapleStory has gameguard which as of now does not work in Wine. I am pretty annoyed at that game but I have some Ubuntu users I helped that would like to play it. If someone knows when it is working if you told me I would be grateful.

My installation of Maplestory always freezes when using wine. Like if i click something that's under it and click back on Maplestory. It just shows like a picture of it where it should be :o

Odds are, Maplestory will never work in Wine, as long as it is using GameGuard. GameGuard relies on running a virtual driver in Windows to accomplish its anti-cheat functions. Since Windows drivers do not work in Wine, GameGuard, and by extension Maplestory, will never work.

You might get it working in VMWare though.

It won't work in the newest version of Virtualbox; I tried the latest version of Maplestory with Virtualbox 2.1. However, 3d acceleration was recently added to Virtualbox with the 2.1 release, and Direct3d support is in the works, so it may be possible in later versions.

VMware Workstation has Direct3d support, but it only works on a couple of graphics cards and its 3d support, like Virtualbox's, is still experimental.
