Can't add programs, use update manager or synaptic

I just got Hardy Heron installed today only to find that I can't add programs, use update manager or synaptic. I'll bet it something simple but I sure can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

Can't use? How so? Error messages? What about apt-get or aptitude?

Hmm...probably u aint supplying the password correctly when u launch synaptic app.
