Hello everyone!

I'm running the UbuntuStudio and trying to record myself. I'm using Ardour (works so fine). But I've some problems with guitar effects, I use Creox, it's nice but don't gives me the sound that I'd like.

I'm looking for a guitar effect like Izzy and Slash's one (the Guns'n'Roses guitarrists). Can anyone recommend me any plugin for Ardour or even any guitar effects creator? More over, if anyone knows how to make the G'n'R sound: can you tell me?

Thanks eceryone, and pardon the newbie.

when it comes to the guitar effects on pc, guitar rig is the king. period. it's not open source nor free but it works perfectly in wine. btw you need a DI box if you don't have one already

you're right but the exercise described here : http://www.ardaeden.net/gnuitar/
is to use completely free and native alternatives. I think it is fair to experiment with 0 dollar stuff first :)

For Ardour the CAPS ladspa plugins are great amp/cabinbet, preamp, plate reverb, etc. You should be able to get decent Slash tones from them. Just search for "caps" in Synaptic.

edit: If I had followed the link for gnuitar above, I would have realized CAPS was prominently mentioned already...

Thanks everyone!

I'm working with CAPS, for me the best one of all suggested. But thanks anyway! Nice to know there are more guitarrists here!

Thanks!

Hi are you guys getting really long latency/delay when you plug in? Mine is so bad that it makes the whole exercise a waste of time. I'm using the r-t kernel with the bug fix (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=781104&highlight=guitar+delay&page=3) but it makes no difference either way. Could the lag be because I'm plugging in to the microphone input rather than usb or firewire??

could well be your jack setting (buffer length or period). What is your jackd setting ?

Yes thank you for that. I started adjusting those settings and the latency improved. The problem is, out of the blue, I can't get a signal at all through ardour or creox, which were working fine for a while (aside from the latency). When I turn the jack controller on, and it rests in the system tray, it turns red when I start up ardour. Don't know if that is standard or not (I didn't have it in the system tray earlier, when I could get a signal).

PC Guitar effects & rigs are pretty average really (And IMHO sound pathetic compared to the real thing) but nobody told you the real truth. Get a MARSHALL VALVE JCM or JTM amp and either a Sure mic or a good DI box + good audio interface. If you REALLY wanna sound like Slash this is the only way to go other methods are second rate

Only telling the truth!
