Hi All,
I have a 25m HDMI cable running from my PC to a repeater and then on again a couple of meters to my HD TV. I know the signal is very strong - the setup works perfectly using my PS3.

When I setup the TV to the PC just using a short HDMI cable the nvidia control panel see's the TV and all works.

I don't think the problem is the length, but its the repeater limiting the connection for the control panel to see the TV. Therefore not allowing me to select the TV in the nvidia settings.

Is there a way of forcing the graphics card (nvidia 9600) to use the same settings when I use the short cable to apply when I use the long cable and the repeater??????

I'm pretty sure I would have the same problem with two short cables with the repeater... which to me says its not the signal fading because of the length, its the repeater itself limiting the communication.

Thanks for your time.
Chris.

it seems like the repeater is blocking the EDID, so your pc isnt getting the information it needs from the tv. it seems odd that the PS3 works fine though. i assume you've tried setting it up with the short cable and then swapping to the long one + repeater whilst the pc is still on?

you could look at dumping the EDID information from your tv onto your hard drive. i think there's an option in the nvidia-settings to use a locally saved EDID file instead of aquiring it from the device. i dont know how to get it off the tv though im afriad. it may not be the problem but its worth a look

Hiya,

Thanks for the reply.

Perhaps there is a way of saving the information once the TV is plugged into the short cable and is visible to the PC.... any ideas how this could be done?

25 metres is outside the spec. for HDMI cables at higher resolution, it may be the PS3 has a stronger than average signal or the return receiver is mroe sensitive.
Can you try without the repeater and last cable?

Setting up an HDMI cable is no harder than setting up any other kind of A/V cables; just find the right slot and plug it in. You simply need to identify which of your components is HD-compatible, and how it can best be connected.
