For about two weeks now I've been fighting with Hardy. Actually, it's just the graphics card driver that is giving me problems. I've tried everything that everyone has suggested and then some. The farthest I've been able to get is to have the driver enabled and in use, but just garbage on the screen (at one point had garbage plus the windows xp logo, which just seemed very odd to me). So, I'm wondering if downgrading would resolve this issue. I've noticed many posters saying that with their older cards (mine is GeForce2 MX) they didn't have problems on some of the older distributions but now they won't work on Hardy.

Any help or suggestion is very much appreciated!!!

Older cards can be a pain. Do you ahve any idea of what driver are you using? I beliueve you have to install the nvidia-glx-legacy package. Also, try disabling desktop effects.

I've used several drivers. Using the legacy driver is the only one that, so far, actually gets me to the login page, but just shows garbage on the screen without desktop effects being enabled.
