I have successfully installed Diablo 2 on Ubuntu 5.10 using wine. When I attempt to host or join a local LAN game, I get an error message stating that Diablo is unable to detect my IP address. Can anyone tell me why this is occurring? Did I miss something in my wine configuration?
Thanks for your help.

If you have a static IP address, try putting it in your /etc/hosts.
There's some wiki over at Transgaming which explains a bit more. I used to have a bookmark of it, but for some reason the wiki was moved.

How did you install Diablo II? I bought the game few weeks back, insert the CD into drive, and it's mounted automatically. But when I try using wine to install the game (wine ./install.exe) the game gives an error message: "Please insert Diablo II install disk in the cdrom drive". I've tried it with D2 LOD too, and same error! The CD files are otherwise accessible from Nautilus. Please help!
