Sorry if this is old news, I checked the sticky and didn't see anything that seemed to match what I'm experiencing. If this has been discussed, feel free to simply point me in the right direction.

Ever since my Hardy Heron update I've been experiencing an intermittent problem where my audio will drop out...once this happens the entire system will start showing other symptoms such as shortcuts from the quicklauch bar no longer working. I can't even hit the button to bring up the option to reboot...and I can't do it through the terminal as none of the menus work either.

Oddly enough, Pidgin still seems to work with out issue (possibly a problem with Pidgin then?) but everything else seems to "freeze". At one point I did receive error messages about failing to initialize audio drivers when I was trying to restart some of the frozen applications.

Anyway like I said this is intermittent, but it scares me every time I have to do a hard reset, I'm worried one of these times I'll corrupt something important :???: I was just curious to know if anyone else had heard/experienced similar problems or if I'm alone on this one. Thanks for any help.

Gonna go ahead and bump this once, if no love I'll let it die.

Well, I'm having similar problems. My audio has worked fine before, but it suddenly became very low volume (while running Ubuntu 7.10), and I couldn't figure out what had caused it. I decided to upgrade to 8.04 to see if that would fix it. It didn't--now it sometimes sort of works (with low volume, as before) and mostly doesn't work at all. : (

I haven't noticed the other problems you describe, though.

Would be grateful for help...
