^ This one..

My venerable old toshiba has finally given it up. so I'm hoping i can at least make use of the hdd.

I'm running gusty gibbon on various computers and another laptop.

Will it be a standardized plug and play deal most likely? or am i definitely wasteing my time? i'm assumeing it'll work the same way memory sticks do software wise.. but i may be wrong?

Thanks for reading :)

Yeah it will show up as a mass storage device like any flash drive. Only problem is that a few laptops don't supply enough power to the usb to start the hard drive, but I haven't run in to this problem myself.

Actually, there's specialized USB-cables for that. Look into the brand Icidu for that, I have one.

A cable with 1 plug on the one end, in the drive, and on the other end there's 2, one for transfer and one for extra power. It's a pretty standard cable if you buy an external casing with the official USB input (the regular one, I mean).
