Hi everyone

I need some help with the Ubuntu Studio Hardy Heron desktop effects. For some reason, it is not letting me activate them.

I am running
CPU: AMD Sempron @ 1.60GHz
RAM: 2GB of DDR400
GPU:Nvidia GeForce 5200FX

unforchunetly this computer that I have has no access to the internet, and the computer that I am posting this on at the moment is running Windows XP so yeah.

So if anyone would know how to get them up and going offline in the Linux Machine that would be great, I am able to download any drivers needed and move it to a Flash drive and put it straight into the machine with Studio installed.

When I go to try and activate the effects it says "Desktop effects could not be activated"

Any help on the subject is greatly appreciated. :)

Cheers

besides compiz, you probably need the nvidia drivers... but i think you NEED a internet connection...

Oh okay so does it update the Nvidia Drivers by itself once it has its own internet connection?

Ubuntu 8.04 hardy comes with compiz but you will need your graphics drivers for this. The easiest way is to get the drivers in deb file.
download this driver from the ubuntu repository
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/nvidia-glx-new

if it needs any other files just download it from the repository
in your windows machine and transfer it. But it might requires 1 or two extra files so you might have to download those as well.

here are all the packages for hardy if you need more.

Oh okay, do you think that you can download the package on a computer running Windows and then transfer it on a flash stick to a linux Machine?

Of course you can. In Ubuntu right-click on the *.deb-file and select "Install".
