View Full Version : [ubuntu] Any one audio application seems to "lock out" the others

Hello - I have found that any one application that plays sound (eg Rhythmbox or even FireFox) will block all other applications from playing sounds. For example, if I start Rhythmbox and then use FireFox to play a YouTube video I cannot hear the video sound. If I then close both applications and open FireFox I can hear the YouTube video, but if I then restart Rhythmbox I cannot play music. The same basic principle applies to streamtuner, Audacity, etc. Basically, I have to close whatever app has "audio control" before starting a new app to receive audio control, if that makes sense.

It seemed to me this would be a common problem, but I couldn't find anything on it. Am I just crazy?

That seems to have fixed the problem, thank you.

Hm, I had some troubles with Skype... it actually didn't seem to fix the "audio lock" problem though, but I may be missing some settings. I'll try messing with it some more.
