kaffeine problem

I have totem (default), Kaffeine, and VLC players. For some reason I have no control over chapters in totem plus it has the worst overall performance. But when I try to use kaffeine, VLC pops up instead. Why would that happen? How do I fix this problem.

Also why is Totem the default media player, when Kaffeine and VLC are both better media players?
