freezing everytime load movies from CD/DVD

hey, i m new to hardy, but so far everything is flawless except the continuous freezing that i have when i want to watch a video from CD or DVD. I have tried different playersi VLC player lastly. The same. I have no problem watching videos from Hard Disk.

I am running on HP PAvilion Dv4000 notebook..

Are these DVD movies or something like an xvid on media? Did you accomplish the same task in the past with another OS like windows? Just want to make sure it's not hardware issue.

Are you able to copy the exact file if it's a file we're talking about to your local HD and play it then?
