I'm using Hardy on my first gen Macbook core duo 1.8, 2GB ram. I've noticed something curious. When I did the last upgrade/update (~31 packages), it took 10 minutes for synaptic to apply the updates. (To contrast, I applied the exact same updates to my old Dell Dimensions that is running a pentium IV 2.5GHz, 512MB ram and it took less than a minute.) Has anyone experienced this curiosity? The system is not slow in doing anything else as far as I noticed.
Does anyone know what could cause this slowness?

It sounds like the packages were already downloaded on your Dell. You can find out if you're set to download (but not install) updates automatically by going to System -> Administration -> Software Sources then select the "Updates" tab. In the section for automatic updates I'll bet "Download all updates in the background" is selected on your Dell but not on your Mac.

Thank you for your feedback, but I manually select which updates to update in syanaptic on both computers and I downloaded the updates in both instances.
I only mentioned the Dell as a comparison and its time to update is ultimately irrelevant. What is relevant is that my Macbook took nearly 10 minutes to apply changes.
Any other ideas?
