Ipod shuffle questions

Hi! I plan to buy my mother an iPod this mother's day. I have a few questions to ask about it because my mom is not that techie but decent.

1. Do you need iTunes to input songs in a Shuffle? (This is why I love generic MP3 players)

2. Do mothers like iPods? It's my first time buying her a present. :(

3. What's the safest color? The best color that suits different kinds of clothes.

1. You do basically need iTunes, although there are third party programs that can load songs onto an iPod once it's formatted.

2. It depends on mother, but my mother does.

3. No idea, hers is the white shuffle.
