How to play CD?

OK this is driving me crazy!

I go into Media Library>Listen to Music>Edit Playlist and select my CD that is in the CD drive.

The songs on the CD are all listed in the playlist, with the first highlighted yellow. But I don't hear any sound and the CD drive isn't spinning.

I can play the CD perfectly from VLC though!

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?

This is so wierd, I restarted my machine and CD playing works fine. I thought that was just a Windows thing!
