I was using Gutsy before with XGL and wasn't having this problem at all. After doing a clean install of Hardy 8.04 (barring the /home partition) on this laptop I've run into a slight problem.

It's semi-randomly but sometimes a new object (window, menu, popup, tooltip, etc) that appears wont be drawn fully. I get the window space but there's no content drawn inside. If I click in the right place whatever should be there reacts but I can't see the icon I clicked. If I minimize/shade and restore the contents appear normally. Not a big deal for me but the computer is destined for someone who knows how to turn it on and click on an icon. I want to keep the nifty screen effects from XGL but the occasional blank window isn't really going to wow her friends and relatives when they politely ask to use the computer.

It's usually one of the 1st few windows to open as well.

A similar effect seems to be going on with the task list. When a window is minimized it sometimes doesn't show up in the task bar. To get it back I have to hide and show the destkop. This time however no amount of clicking the blank where the window should have been works.

Any ideas?
