I just installed Xubuntu 8.04, and deleted Windows XP. When i tried plugging in my wirless card, it was not detected, but did get power. But when i swapped the hard drive and wireless card to another laptop, it worked fine. When I switched the harddrive back, the card worked for the first boot, but not on subsequent boots. The wireless card is a D-Link DWL-G630 Revision C2 and the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 2500. Is there another linux distro i could use that would work on boot, because the laptop was going to be a picture frame and it needs to be reliable, unless of course i could leave linux on 24/7, and it would not crash unlike windows.

I have a Dlink dwl-g630 too, and I've had numerous failed attempts to get it working. One of the biggest issues is that D-Link changes chipset frequently, so the volunteer driver developers cannot keep up.

I will keep looking, but I don't have an answer for you yet.

I found another post that has what seems to be the best answer. It's long.
Search for "howto wlan via ndiswrapper" and look for a reply by MASPRO on 15th May 2005. This is the link. You should search through all the pages.:)

The weird thing is that I have tried 2 usb network adapters, a D-Link g122 and a Netgear WG111, and they both are very fincky, they sometimes work when I plug them in after i boot, but they stop working after I use Firefox, but i can use Pidgin. Its weird, but I will try what you posted.

I checked, and it said my revision was supported. I've tried it again, but it does not work any more at all :(
Oh yeah, and I am using WPA-PSK
