Hello!
I get an odd background sound every second when I play videofiles with mplayer. It sounds like when you snap your fingers. Totem doesn't seem to get that annoying sound though. mp3 playback works fine. I use oss because I have a X-Fi card. If I switch the audio driver to esd the background sound goes away. Can I fix this somehow? I tried to compile the mplayer svn but it seems it is broken atm. It couldn't compile libavcodec. I also installed the latest oss from the oss project's homepage.
mplayer and totem seem slow compared to windoze. I could play 720p x264 flawlessy but in ubuntu it's very choppy and the sound lags. The video quality isn't very good either. Any ideas?
AMD64 3200+
Geforce 6800
1 GB RAM
Ubuntu 8.04 (amd64)
Cheers,
