Beryl has been in deprecated state for a year since the Compiz Fusion project was born. You should install Compiz, not Beryl.

If you're running Gutsy or Heron, compiz-fusion is already installed. Look under System, Preferences, Appearance, Visual Effects (assuming you're running Gnome).

To unleash the true power of Compiz-Fusion on your Ubuntu 7.10/8.04 operating system, you must:

Click Applications ------> Add/Remove program ----> type in "Advanced Desktop Effects Settings" and install.

Then go into your System -----> Preferences ---> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings, and then you can fully configure Compiz-Fusion to do cool desktop effects like the rotating cube.
