Hi everyone. After much frustration, I finally managed to install recordmydesktop in Ubuntu 8.04. I'm having some problems with the video quality though. I recorded some and put it on YouTube, so people can take a look at what's wrong. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Other than increasing the frame rate, there aren't a lot of options for changes in the gui frontend.

"man recordmydesktop" shows a couple of options which might possibly help, such as "-v_quality" and "-v_bitrate". I haven't tried them myself but they look like they are worth a shot.

set video and audio to 50% as suggested in the man pages. That should improve the quality greatly.

Edit: not man pages...user's guide: http://recordmydesktop.iovar.org/rug/toc.php

If tweaking RecordMyDesktop doesn't work, then you may be able to try out glc, it's an openGL capture application that works quite well, but is a little hard to install, capture, and convert into a handy format.

- I've used glc to capture sauerbraten (openGL game), it works very well, particularly on a resolution of 1280x1024 or less.
