Hi

I have a couple of questions regarding Update Manager.

1. What does "Normal releases" and "Long term support releases only" mean?
2. Should I enable "Third Party Software" (default set, not source). What advantages would this give me?

:)

1.
Long term release means it will be officially supported for about 4 years - i don't remember exactly how many - so there will be new updates in the repos.

2. Yes, third pary repos include packages compiled for ubuntu but not by ubuntu and there are some wonderful programs in those repos. You may see copyright disclaimers in some third party repositories due to proprietary packaging or closed source projects.

normal releases come out twice a year, LTS releases come out once in two years. I imagine you'd normally want to upgrade to a normal release, unless you need the extra stability and support for, say, big business platforms or something like that, as LTS versions get system updates and official support for three years for desktop version and 5 years for server version.
third party software tab is for you to put your own software sources there. that way, you can update third-party software along with official packages with the system updater.
