Replace your /etc/apt/sources.list with the following lines:
(Please Note: as of 10/17/05, Breezy Backports were not active)

#deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 5.10 _Breezy Badger_ - Release i386 (20051012)]/ breezy main
restricted

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy main restricted

## Major bug fix updates produced after the final release of the
## distribution.
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-updates main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-updates main restricted

## Uncomment the following two lines to add software from the 'universe'
## repository.
## N.B. software from this repository is ENTIRELY UNSUPPORTED by the Ubuntu
## team, and may not be under a free licence. Please satisfy yourself as to
## your rights to use the software. Also, please note that software in
## universe WILL NOT receive any review or updates from the Ubuntu security
## team.
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy universe multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy universe multiverse

## Uncomment the following two lines to add software from the 'backports'
## repository.
## N.B. software from this repository may not have been tested as

How do I know when a particular repository, let's say backports, is enabled? Do I have to dig into these forums, or are they declared at some other non-cluttered page like www.ubuntu.com? Please inform. Thanks!

I replaced my sources.list with that, but still doesn't work:

[Connecting to my.archive.ubuntu.com (1.0.0.0)] [Connecting to security.ubuntu.com (1.0.0.0)]

If you are getting a response of '1.0.0.0' as your post suggests, take a look at your dns settings on your router/modem. Copy them, write them down, whatever, but they need to be copied into your resolv.conf file.

In a terminal window enter the following line: gedit /etc/resolv.conf (You can use whatever editor you like)

This should open the resolv.conf file which should look a little like the following:

nameserver 1.0.0.0

Change 1.0.0.0 to your ISP's primary/secondary DNS IP address and save this. Then try using apt get -update

Happy hunting ;)

Can I add Debian repositories?

PaganHippie

You can, but there's no guarantee that anything retrieved from them will work, and in some cases installing Debian stuff in Ubuntu can scrog up your system.
