I want to thank the GTKWifi team for finally developing a wireless tool for GNOME that I can use. I hated wasting time using the default GNOME networking tool to activate my RT2570 wireless card and getting disconnected once I hit OK to finalize everything, and NetworkManager would lock up my PC half the time. But with GTKWifi, I get an easy-to-use interface that doesn't screw up my PC, and actually works!
To each and every developer who worked on this project: Thank you! :KS

I second that. It makes switching between ethernet and wifi much less painful.

Nomearod: You need to download it from the sourceforge link provided in this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=73563) and install it locally.

I had to run "gtkwifi run-in-window" in a terminal to find the application, what went wrong here?
NEVERMIND, I added the application to taskbar........

I've been using NetworkManager, and hoping to switch to GTKwifi, but I wonder if you'd be willing to say exactly how you switch between wired and wireless setups with GTKwifi. Do you use the default Gnome Network Monitor applet - which I'm trying to avoid as much as possible for all the usual reasons (slow, locks up, mostly doesn't work, etc., etc.).
Thanks for any info.

I just installed ubuntu and have issues with wifi connection. I would like to install GTKWifi, but after downloading to my desktop, I'm totally stuck. Please provide the steps necessary to install (a total beginner so elementary 1,2,3 would be perfect.) Thanks in advance for your assistance.:p

It's in a sticky at the top of this forum.
cd /towhere/you/saved
sudo dpkg -i gtkwifi-1.06.deb (--or 1.09 depending on what version you downloaded)

5-7 sec to bring up the "Select Network" window and it just feels very slow, sometimes but not often its almost instant as it should be. When i click cancel i have to wait up to 10sec. Could it have something to do with me using ndiswrapper?, network-manager worked perfectly fast but i didn't like the bind9 requirement.

Just right-click on the panel, and add the Wireless Network Monitor to it.
