I am thinking about buying a copy of this game today, and I heard there is a native installer for linux.
Is this something packaged on teh cd or something I can pull from the repo's or what? Is there perhaps a guide to installing the game somewhere that I can use in Breezy / Gnome.

Thanks in Advance!

its an Shell script that Loki wrote from what I remember. Itll run in Hoary no problem (and breezy I suspect as well), My install ran pretty smooth with some minor tweaking afterwards.

there is an install script on the forst disk of ut2k4, there is also one on ut2k3 but that is on the last disk I think.

It's no problem to install; just don't make the same two mistakes I did:

-Make sure you install as root
-Make sure you have two terminals open; one running the script and one for umounting the CDs.

As for updating it, I -think- you'll need a Loki installer.

Or take the DVD version.

No, the patch is a simple archive that just needs to be copied over your UT installation.
You may get that patch here: http://www.beyondunreal.com/main/ut2004/ut2004essential.php

what directory do you extract that to?

Into the directory, you installed UT2004 to. By default, it's /usr/local/games/ut2004.

-Make sure you have two terminals open; one running the script and one for umounting the CDs.You should use ivman to automaticly mount and unmount cds.

Also make sure to run the installer from a directory outside the CD so that you can unmount it.

I installed mine on a separate partition over a year ago and it has survived, untouched, through Mandrake 10, 10.1, Gentoo, Kubuntu 5.04, and Kubuntu 5.10 :D

5.10 is the only time I've had to do something other than enabling 3D on my card in order to get it to work (I had to install libstdc++5). It's a superb port and a great game!

I wrote a FAQ and files to turn the CD version into a DVD if anyone is interested. The files are about 30 megs I think. I shared then via Bittorrent.
