View Full Version : [ubuntu] ATI Card not found in 'Hardware Drivers'

Hi,

I've been playing around to get Compiz working on my laptop after an upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy. After several attempts, following several walkthroughs, my ATI x1400 card stopped showing up in the 'Hardware Drivers' list. Now I cannot enable/disable my card's restricted drivers, which is kind of needed in order to get my Compiz back working.8-[

I also cannot turn my direct rendering on whatever I try. All I get from $ fglrxinfo is this:

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1 Mesa 7.0.3-rc2)

So, my question kind of is: how do I get my ATI x1400 card back in the drivers list?

And maybe someone can tell me how I get my Compiz back. I've tried installing the latest ATI drivers and all and all I get is the "White Screen of Death". The desktop without the effects is seriously lame...](*,)

Thanks in advance.

Here's my xorg.conf, just for the fun of it:

Try to use the programme envyng-gtk to install ati driver. You will find it in synaptic.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I've done what you said, but the ATI card still won't appear in the Hardware List. The direct rendering is also still off...

I've managed to take a screenshot of the ATI Catalyst Control Center, it's attached to this message.

Well, I kind of solved it. Everything is working like a charm now. How?

>> Backup my important stuff and did a fresh install. :-\"

Bit of a job though, but it did the trick. Compiz, effects: everything works beautifully! :-({|=

Bye! ):P
