While trying to install a wireless pcmcia card in my last century laptop, the MenuBar and my sudo/root privileges have gone missing.

Right clicks at the screen top and elsewhere produce the drop down xfce default menu but no opportunities to correct that I can determine.

My guess is the xfce files were damaged or not a good match for this old machine

My current plan is to wipe the hard drive and start over with a slimmed down UBUNTU with gnome instead of XUBUNTU's xfce.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

After 5 days and no suggestions, we old guys ( the HP and me) have moved on.

Ubuntu and Epiphany have replaced the xubuntu and xfce.

Great community. Am learning lots. Thanks for being here.

Case closed. However we do that.
