Reset Network

I am running Hardy on a Thinkpad T60p with an 3495abg network card. I recently deleted network-manager but installed it back through synaptic. Then tried a modprobe on iwl3495 (something like that). Now, I can't log in unless my ethernet wire is unplugged. While plugged in I get an orange screen with a white box in the top left until a restart. Wi-fi has never worked and once logged in I plug in my ethernet wire and the packets slowly increase up into the 1000's in increments of about 25.

I want to redo all of my network settings. Can I somehow insert the install disk and only reconfig all the networking settings? Thank you in advance.
