View Full Version : [ubuntu] Partitioning Question

Okay, I have an external jaz drive (I know, outta date, but just listen) that a friend wants and I need to re-partition it for Windows. Can I do that without having to use Windows using either Parted or Gparted? After partitioning, can I then reformat it for NTFS within Linux?

You need to download and burn the liveCD iso and then boot your computer from it and run Gparted from there.

I'm not working on my internal disk, this is purely an external jaz drive. Surely I can do this without having to boot from the liveCD, or was Gparted never meant to be run from your internal disk? I've got a liveCD, but is using it a requirement for doing this? I've created Linux partitions for external drives while still running from my internal disk, shouldn't I be able to, with the right program, be able to switch an external drive back to a Windows partition without having to boot to the liveCD?
