synaptic confusion

Quick question here.

I used synaptic to download a bunch of stuff (tuxracer, bittorrent, bittornado etc) and bittorrent got an entry in the menu on the desktop, but the other things didn't.

what have I done wrong/do I need to do to get them added to gnome?

Some packages do not add themselves to the menu. You've got to do it Yourself (if You need to) :) . You've done nothing wrong, that's just the way it is.
