Hi Everyone-

This is my first time installing Ubuntu so please bear with me.

Basically I downloaded the Hardy Heron release, burned to CD and select Install Ubuntu from cd options.

The iso I downloaded is: ubuntu-8.04-desktop-i386.iso

Now, the Ubuntu scroll bar goes for about 5 minutes then I get this repeated error:

ata1.01 Exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen
ata1.01 cmd a0/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/b0 tag 0
ata1:01 status: { DRDY }
sr1: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: start/stop Unit 1b 00 00 00 03 00

Basically pages and pages of these errors scroll, nothing happens...just runs indefinitely

I created a new partition to install it on (20gb created using Partition Magic 8.0)..
I came across a similar error when I was trying to run gparted from a live disk awhile ago when I was trying create a partition to install vista on.
The drive is a western digital raptor 150gb...I don't know the exact model but I can provide that or any other information that seems pertinent.

I am using a DFI P35 Bloodiron chipset,

I wish I could provide more information but I know so little about this I am not sure whats relevant. I am under the impression the kernel does not like my Sata drive..

Does the message seem to be referring to the hard drives or the cd drives?

Maybe I could do a USB thumb drive installation if the CD drives are going to be problematic during install?

Thanks

LegoMan, did you try the Alternate CD yet? I think that will be my next step
