Is it possible to have a live desktop wallpaper on hardy like those wallpaper effects on Samsung mobile phones? Something like flash wallpapers. For example, to see moving rain drops on "rainy" wallpaper.
Or this is still SF?

Enlightenment has something a lot like that. I have used OpenGEU (http://opengeu.intilinux.com/Home.html) and with Enlightenment, they have a few really slick 2D effects, like wallpaper that changes, and it doesn't need a 3D card to do anything but DVDs! It has a rain drop effect that is pretty cool, sorta looks like your monitor is being rained on.

(Just a note Enlightenment is not out of testing yet, so don't use it for production machines. Meaning if you can't afford to lose it to a crash, don't use Enlightenment yet. That said, Enlightenment is fairly stable now, just not as solid as the other windows managers.)

There is a Compiz plugin that shows Autumn leaves falling on the screen. There is also a snow one as well.

I ran the Autumn leaves for a while and it looks really good.

Try enabling programs in the desktop window (I know KDE has this under "Desktop->Behavior->Allow programs in desktop window"...not sure about other DE's) and then run one of the xscreensaver modules with a "-root" option.
Be careful of "atunnel", though...that one makes me feel funny...

I know of this one but was unable to make it work. Installed it properly, manually replaced autumn wallpaper, but could not find this plugin in compiz manger windows so I gave up. And never saw the "pleasure" :( .
