i emailed this to the sabdfl, but i'll copy it here so you can all look

the location button bar in the new nautilus is very good, it makes nautilus almost the best file browser I have seen. The little thing that I think would push it to first place would be if you could drag and drop files to the location buttons.

For example. If i am in ~/docs/ and i want to move a document to my home folder then i just drag it to home in the location bar, and drop it. This would save me having to select-copy-navigate-paste or have two windows open.

This could be taken one more step if when I dragged and hovered over the home button, then the home directory was shown. Now I can pick up a document from ~/docs/, drag it to the home button, wait a second untill home is displayed, the drag to ~/home/someotherfolder and drop it there.

If I have not explained this well enough let me know, and I'll make some drawings of what it would be like.

I've already tried this (multiple times even) because it feels so natural that you should be able to. So I'm all for. :)

Even better, it should also work with bookmarks. Drag a folder to the Bookmarks -> Add Bookmark, and it will create a bookmark. Drag a file/folder to one of the Bookmarks it will move/copy it there.

Another thing, the address bar are now different buttons, these are very cool, but, I sometimes want the old version back (for example to copy a location), so maybe, if you click in the empty space between the buttons, or before, or make a extra button for it, it changes back to a normal addess bar. (It's been done in Vista, so I know it's possible)

CTRL-L does this. Maybe a button would be in place too, though. :)

Why not just change to tree view. Can drag and drop all you want.

the drag an drop in tree view can get quite messy if you have big folders, also you can not get above the folder you started at.

i think the more drag and drop support the better. it is a very natural way to do things.

It would be nice if the "location bar" looked a bit more like a location bar, so that the user can guess that it can transform into a location bar, even if he doesn't know the "Ctrl-L" shortcut. Vista's explorer does a reasonably good job with that, eventhough I think it can be improved.

I think we should be able to use the scroll wheel over the buttons too, like how we can with tabs in gtk.

All excellent ideas.

Drag and drop on location bar would be great. Im constantly juggly directories and the tree view is cumbersome. I generally Ctrl+N then Ctrl+L. Drag and drop would be so much easier. As it is, you can drag and drop FROM the location bar but not to it. It's just not intuitive. Drag and drop the world!

Mouse wheel on location bar = also brilliant.
