I just installed ubuntu 8.04. And did not see default compiz effects (like wobbly windows ) that came with gutsy.

I installed compiz settings manager and then when, for ex. I select, rotate cube it says "Rotate Cube requires the plugin Desktop Cube". How do I get it? I tried sudo apt-get... but it did not work "packet not found"

Can anyone please tell me what to do, thanks

Desktop cube is also just a plugin and should be in the settings-manager (try typing it in the search-field, it should come up).

Pardon any errors I may suggest as I am still a Newb and am at work on a Win PC. I don't have Ubuntu anywhere near me so I will do my best to remember the directories and such.

If you go to the Add/Remove programs, then search for compiz, you can install the compiz effects there. After they are installed, you will have to find the "Advanced Desktop Effects" under System/Preferences/Desktop Effects. From there you can select what you would like to run for effects and then go into the advanced setting to make it work the way you want right down to what hot keys are the default and if you would like to change them.

I hope that helps out.

the cube and everything else is there - no need to add anything except compiz-settings-manager from synaptic to change default settings. i've installed 8.04 on 3 machines already, compiz works perfectly on all of them, i didn't install anything except compiz-settings-manager. have you installed the video driver yet? How about system->preferences->appearances->visual effects-> extras? have you done that?
