Hi
I read in a web page that Ubuntu 8.04 has built-in composition and we can run AWN without compiz, is it correct?

Thanks

In config editor, navigate to apps>metacity>general and check the box next to 'compositing_manager'. (I don't know about AWN though)

Thats true, metacity has a built-in compositor now(much better than before), you just need to enable it in he gconf-editor.

But isn't it limited in comparison to compiz. Doesn't it have less effects :(

Yup, but if you don't want all the bells and whistles and just want compositing for some of your applications like AWN or Cairo-Clock then that should be exactly what you want.
