hello. i used to be xubuntu user and i remember that when i right clicked on the desktop, a menu appeared and offered me to create folder/launcher/text file and configure desktop. on other xfce distros however, right click opens application menu and the xfdesktop preferences don't offer the option to use context menu instead.

is this behavior specific to xubuntu? because when asking on zenwalk forums (my current distro) nobody seemed to know what i'm talking about...

I don't know about xubuntu, but if you install the xfce4 meta package in ubuntu, you get an application menu on right-click. This is the default behavior. However, you can reach a menu like that you describe by right-clicking on a desktop item and then go to the Desktop submenu.
