Hello, i'm pretty new to linux and i'm having problems with streaming. I installed the mplayer plugin in firefox, and after some manipulating I arrive to stream using mplayer externally some videos. However theres a radio station that wont work (http://www.radiorock.it/stream/radiorock_new.asx). When i open the website the mplayer plugin appears but the streaming never starts it just stays on "stopped". I tried opening the url with vlc but it says : "Unable to open 'mms://209.11.243.250/RadioRock_audio' ". I also tried with mplayer (which just freezes) and gxine which just stops as well. Help!!

Thanks

Same problem here. Mplayer was able to play asx files fine with 7.10; however, with 8.04 it appears it will play because it says 'connecting', but then stops. Any advice is appreciated!

i dont know what happened, maybe one of the sudo updates fixed it, but this morning the stream is working perfectly well!! Its also working in the browser, while the videos i used to stream before i had to use an external app. So everything seems to be fine!!!

I have the same problem with most, not all, radio stations.

This one, for instance.
http://www.cbc.ca/listen/streams/r1_vancouver_32.html
updates have not resolved this for me.
A very few radion stations will play.

click on the radio tab on that page to listen live. pick which one you want to listen to. when the little box opens up to choose high or low bandwidth, just right click and "copy link address". next, open up vlc and go to file>open network stream>HTTP....and paste address. click OK. there you go. it may seem like alot, but only takes a few seconds.
