8.04 Slow graphics even without compiz

I've been having this problem only since i upgraded to hardy. My graphics are slow. Scrolling web pages is very slow, even without compiz. When i enable compiz, all the effects are working but very slow. I have an intel g.c.
Any help is highly appreciated.

Had a friend with the same problem, turns out he was using the vesa driver, check you /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and change to the intel driver
