Well I tried to get it to go in Wine but authorizations don't work so there's no point really then running Final Draft in freaking demo mode.

So I caved in and finally installed Virtualbox, installed Windows 2000 and now I'm up and running in Linux (well sort of) with Final Draft. The cool thing now is that I can do it all from one boot and don't have to switch back and forth. It has been a real hassle these last few weeks. But now I'm one happy writer.

BTW I got USB and printing going in Virtualbox as well so I have been moving my scripts over from the PC using a USB drive and printing some of them up for this week. Very cool!

Sorry FD doesn't work in Wine but at least there is a solution for those of us who want to be in Linux all day and still use Final Draft. Hey, wouldn't it be nice if they made a Final Draft to work in Linux? I asked them a while back and they said, "Not happening." Too bad....

I decided to use a linux solution so I use the screenwriting template for Lyx. I don't know if there is a screenwriting template for OOo but that would be very useful.

I'd use a Linux solution if I could but the people I work with expect a Final Draft file so I'm tied to that software. They need it for production purposes. Damn shame FD won't sell a Linux version but it is what it is.

I know of Celtx which seems to be picking up steam and I'm sure making a template for OO would be really simple. There are options for people out there but for those in the industry, Final Draft can be essential.

Good luck with your stuff man.

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd share my recent experience with Final Draft (version 7) and Wine (version 1.30). I've been running Final Draft in XP/VirtualBox for some time now and thought I'd try and see if I could get it going under Wine.

I installed from a purchased CD. The install works perfectly and so does registration. The software itself works as well under Wine as it does natively under Windows. Everything is very satisfactory until you close it out and try to re-open. When you do you get:
Activation has become invalid. The activation has become lost. Please reactivate or contact Customer Support. (-102)I also tried contacting them via e-mail but the answer I got back was, "no Linux port for Final Draft." Seeing as how lost activation is the only obstacle from having a fully functioning Final Draft under Linux, you'd think it would be a small task for them to help in overcoming this. Other than the activation obstacle, I'd give it a "gold" under Wine.
