Me and a friend were looking at the Windows 7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7) article on Wikipedia, more specifically, the screenshot (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6c/7desktop.png) of it.
After a minute or so of just looking at it, we said, as one, "It's KDE!".

right now it's just Vista, but in the future they'll probably borrow from KDE/Mac OS X

How do you figure it looks like KDE? Looks identical to the default Vista desktop...

not much change from vista then? hope ms come up with something a little bit innovative for 7.
looks nothing like KDE tho, unless you cared to shape your KDE desktop to copy windows with the infinite customisability inherent to linux, lol

guys its WAAAAY to early for them to be making cosmetic changes...we don't even know if they have completly built the kernel yet

My guess is probably not. They should be working on fixing the bugs in Vista to make it more of a mainstream-ready product (although the reasoning behind doing so after a release is beyond me)

They are producing a new kernel it's called minwin. It was shown off last year. They have talked multiple times about switching over to a new kernel that didn't require the amount of stuff they crammed into the Vista kernel, which would be nice. And it is Vista, In fact no one can prove it's not Vista. Most of the little changes they made (the icon, sidebar gadget and build info) can be done with a bit of program knowledge, reg info and of course some spare time. I highly doubt they will use Vista as a starting point.
As for KDE I think thats a lie. KDE can look however you want it to look. Just because some distros release one that looks like Vista doesn't mean that KDE is a windows look-alike.

minwin was the base to the kernel it wasn't the whole kernel

nahh, you can tell it's not the real windows 7.
The public name is windows7 the development name (which would appear in such and early alpha is actually codenamed crapos)

GUI changes won't come til the next milestone release (can't remember where I read this so cannot post source), so it is basically vista in that picture.

I too am stumpted as to how it looks like KDE?
The GUI is EXACTLY the same as Vista? So if Windows 7 looks like KDE, so does Vista?
