I was wondering if we can get the linuxcnc in the synaptec package manager. I looked for it, but it's nowhere to be found. I would like to add it so I can use a mini mill with it. I know you can download the files, but it would be much more helpful adding it this way instead of having to download an iso specifically for that. Just a suggestion. I just installed the new version and well, still getting used to it. I do like the different time zone clocks...now I can just look there to make sure I'm not waking people up! I'm just not crazy about the new background images though...just my opinion. I just like the more simple professional looking ones.

looks pretty cool and actively developed to me. Who do we need to talk to in order to get this added to the ubuntu repositories.

Yes this is a very developed project from what I've noticed, but they only have the old 6.06tls version of the ISO. So hopefully they'll get just the deb files so we can install the program on any of the other versions, if not at least the latest version will be nice.

For anyone interested there's now a LinuxCNC 8.04 version that you can download. Just keep in mind that the wireless connection on this was horrible. I know it's been out for a bit but here you go.

I know I posted this a while back but since this is related I thought I add this to this thread. I just found this other free CAD program from PTC which I think others may be interested in. Alibre no longer has their freebie and freecad is still under construction. This one seems to work well, but it's going to take a while to for me to learn, but seems to be just what I want for basic 3D drawings. Unfortunately it's only for Windows so I installed it on my htpc and remote connect to it in order to use it from my Ubuntu. Seems to be working fine even through wireless. I just installed it yesterday so I can't tell you much about it, but it does look like a complete package. It's hard finding anything to learn when you're not working and not a student either, but I think I finally found something else I can play without much fuss. You just need your email address to complete registration. Couldn't be any better. I also took a pro/e course in college but since the programs were expensive I never did anything else with that. I can't even remember much now, but well I like to try and point other to things I think may help them too.

Here's another free CAD software called Draftsigtht. I think it may be a 2D, but hey it's free and looks like it works. So can't hurt to try it out.
