Unfortunately not possible at the moment. Interfacing with the iPhone over USB requires iTunes' MobileDevice.dll which is useless in Linux, even in wine.

So far the only information I've seen of anyone working on talking to the iPhone/iPT over USB in Linux is here (http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/2008/01/113-unlock-and-linux-driver.html) on Geohot's blog.

Aside from importing your photos, anything to do with the iPhone in Linux has to be done over wifi (which requires jailbreak on either Mac or Windows first.)
