Just installed 8.04 in my Dell 700m. It is gennerally running much faster than the previous distro. When I tried to play a video using Totem, the first time it is OK. However, I played second video, the system crashed. It seems the system shut down automatically, but the hard disk light is still on. I have to remove the power chord and battery, and re-insert the battery or power chord again to start the machine. Anyone out there have similar problems? Thanks!

ok, made more test. MPLAYER had the same problem. So most probably, it is not the problem of the player, but the codecs. However, both GSstreamer and w32codec caused the same results. Any idea? Thanks a lot for any input.

OK, following the tricks on the below post, I installed the package "ubuntu-stricted-extras", and the problem is gone.
