steam problems

I've recently installed steam using wine, and it works fairly well.

however, the actual steam interface is extremely laggy/slow. I click on a game or button, and it takes at least 30 seconds to respond.

Also, in cs 1.6, the game is forced to start windowed mode. Also, i can't get it to connect to the internet.

fairly new to linux btw.

ok, cs seems to be working now, but the steam interface is still laggy :(
