Something is wrong with my Hardy; i can be listening to some music on Rythmbox, no problems, mp3 playback is fine, but if I stop it and leave the computer idle for some time and then return, sometimes, there is no sound playback for some obscure, and incomprehensible reason. I mean the playback of any sound file will not play. Streaming music from the internet will work, though.

After I restart, the sound playback is normal again. Once the sound playback returned after I typed Alt+F2 "compiz". Can this be the problem?!

It's very disconcerting. Anyone else has experienced the same problem? I'm a 2 day Ubuntu user.

I am having an identical problem. With gutsy this never happened, but now regardless of whether I'm using Amarok, Rhythmbox, VLC, or anything else, I cannot get audio (except for aforementioned streaming). This is really bothering me, so if anyone has any resolution for this, it would be greatly appreciated.
